Embedding the holiday programme in the municipality's website

Elmsbrück has a website of its own, where families are to find the holiday programme, and the IT department wants to take over the offers into the municipality's events calendar. Offers and registration stay on the fepli website, the public website of your instance. You set up the season page there, have the municipality's website link to it and prepare fepli's interface, the API, for the IT department. You need about 30 minutes.

What you need

  • An account with the account type Admin. For step 6, you additionally need the role Super admin.
  • The season Summer holidays 2027, whose phase Publish offers is currently running.
  • A published offer with the visibility Public on the website, e.g. the Canoe trip.
  • A fepli website. Your instance has one if Website appears in the sidebar of the admin panel.
  • The person who maintains the municipality's website, and the municipality's IT department.

Step 1 – Write a welcome text for the season page

Every season has a page of its own on the fepli website with its offers, the season page. The municipality's website later links to it, and a welcome text above the offer list greets the families who come from there. The Website page of the season refers to the fepli website; the municipality's website does not change as a result.

  1. In the sidebar under Seasons, select the season Summer holidays 2027.
  2. Switch to the Edit tab.
  3. On the left, open the Website page.
  4. Under Welcome text, enter 2 to 3 sentences, e.g. Welcome to the holiday programme of Elmsbrück. The team answers questions at ferienpass@example.org. The text may contain Markdown.

Your text now appears under Welcome text. On the fepli website it appears above the offer list.

Step 2 – Add the season to the menu of the fepli website

Families who open the fepli website directly find the season page through a menu item of its own in the main menu. It appears only while the phase Publish offers is running and disappears by itself afterwards. Through the same menu item, you open the page yourself in step 3 and copy its address.

  1. Turn on Add to the site navigation.
  2. Under Place after, select the page after which the menu item is to stand.
  3. Select Save.

The message “Data saved” appears, below it “Your changes have been saved.”

Step 3 – Open the season page and copy its address

The address of the season page is the target the municipality's website links to. The season page exists only while the phase Publish offers is running. Before and after, the same address shows an error page.

  1. In the sidebar, select Website.
  2. In the main menu of the fepli website, select Summer holidays 2027.
  3. Copy the address from the address bar of the browser.

You see the season page with your welcome text above the offer list. The address of the page ends with /o/summer-holidays-2027.

For a news item on the municipality's website, e.g. about the canoe trip, you link the offer directly. The link stays valid even if the title of the offer changes. If the offer is not public, Copy link copies the private link; this step therefore requires the visibility Public on the website.

  1. Select Offers and open the Canoe trip.
  2. In the header of the offer, select Copy link.

The message “Link copied” appears. The link begins like the address of the season page and ends with an identifier and the title of the offer.

For most municipalities one link is enough. Families register on the fepli website anyway, and there the current free places, dates and cancellations always appear. The editors of the municipality need not maintain anything for this.

  1. Send the editors of the municipality's website the address of the season page and the link to the canoe trip.
  2. Ask the editors to link to the season page on the page about the holiday programme, e.g. with the link text View the offers of the Summer holidays 2027.
  3. Agree with the editors that they remove the link at the end of the phase Publish offers.

On the municipality's website, the link now leads to the season page, and families register from there on the fepli website.

Step 6 – Check public access to the API

The API is worthwhile if the municipality wants to display the offers itself, for example in its events calendar or in the search of its website. Without a token, the API delivers the same offers as the fepli website and nothing beyond. Public access is turned on from the start, but a super admin may have turned it off.

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Switch to App-Store.
  3. Select the card API.
  4. If the app shows “Switched off.”, select Switch on and then the card API again.
  5. Copy the address under Endpoint.
  6. If Public access is turned off, turn on the switch and select Save. Otherwise select Cancel.

The card API shows Switched on, and Public access is on. Calls without a token now deliver the same data that appears on the fepli website.

Step 7 – Guide the municipality's IT department

The technical guide is on fepli developers. It also explains why the IT department caches the offers on its server: Without a token, fepli answers at most 5 calls per hour and IP address. Registration stays on the fepli website, and every offer in the calendar links to its offer page there.

  1. Send the IT department the address under Endpoint and the guide Offers on your website.
  2. Tell the IT department the last part of the address of the season page, summer-holidays-2027. With it, the IT department narrows the offers down to the season.

The IT department now has everything it needs to show the offers of the season Summer holidays 2027 in the municipality's events calendar.

What you have achieved

The season page on the fepli website greets families and appears in the main menu while the phase Publish offers is running. The municipality's website links to the season page and to the canoe trip, and the IT department fetches the offers through the API into the events calendar. Families keep registering on the fepli website.
