Change an account's email address

If a person has a new email address, enter it in the account. The address is also the sign-in name and takes effect only once the person has confirmed it with a link.

Prerequisites

  • Account type Admin; for admin accounts, super admin; for participant accounts, the role View and create participants.
  • You have verified that the request comes from the person themselves, e.g. by calling back on a number already stored in the account, or by a reply from the previous email address. A message from the new address does not prove this.

Steps

  1. Select Accounts.
  2. In the account's actions menu (⋮), select Edit.
  3. Under Person, enter the new Email address, e.g. name@example.org.
  4. Select Save.
  5. In the dialog Change sign-in identifier, turn on “I understand what {name} will no longer be able to do afterwards.”
  6. Select Apply change.
  7. Ask the person to open the link in the email “Confirm your new sign-in address” within 24 hours and to select Confirm address.

The Accounts list, the Details tab and in front of it the dialog Change sign-in identifier.

Result

The new address still has to be confirmed, and the previous address receives the email “New sign-in address entered”. As soon as the person has confirmed, they sign in only with the new address, and the previous address receives the email “Your sign-in address was changed”.

If it does not work

ProblemRemedy
The Email address field cannot be changed: “Can only be changed with the Participants role.”Ask a colleague with the role View and create participants to change the address. The family can also change its address on the website itself.
The Access tab reports “New address {email} was not confirmed by {date}.”Enter the address again under Details and repeat steps 4 to 7. The person receives a new link.
The address entered is wrong. In the Access tab, select Discard at the waiting address. The previous address is kept.
