Create a new emergency kit
If an emergency kit is lost, may have fallen into the wrong hands or was used for a recovery, create a new one. The previous kit then opens nothing any more.
Prerequisites
- Account type Super admin with access to the encrypted data and a passkey that unlocks.
- The encryption is Active. While the status shows Encrypting, there is no new kit.
Steps
- Select Settings > Privacy > Encryption.
- Select Create new emergency kit ….
- Select Confirm with passkey and confirm with your passkey.
Encrypts the names and dates of birth of children, health information and sensitive details of Ferienpass Elmsbrück in the browser. The tenant keeps the recovery key; fepli cannot reset it.
Confirm with your passkey. Your browser then creates a new recovery key. The previous emergency kit becomes invalid.
The Encryption page and the first step of the Create new emergency kit dialog.
Warning
From step 6 on, only the new kit opens the data. Save it before you go on.
- Select Download emergency kit (PDF) and save the kit as a PDF in the print dialog or print it.
- Enter the 4 characters of the recovery key whose positions the dialog names.
- Select Activate new kit.
- Destroy all copies of the previous kit, digital ones included.
The emergency kit contains the recovery key. It is created only now and shown nowhere else.
The second step of the dialog after the download.
Result
Emergency kit shows “Created on {date} by {name}” with today's date. The Fingerprint stays the same; the kit shows the same one as the page after unlocking. Whoever enters the previous kit gets “This emergency kit is no longer valid: a new one was created on {date}. Use the new kit.”
If it does not work
| Problem | Remedy |
|---|---|
| Create new emergency kit … is missing. | The status is not Active. If the encryption is still running, select Resume and wait until it has finished. |
| “The team key does not match the one your account knows. No emergency kit is made. …” | Do not create a kit and contact fepli. The previous kit stays valid. |
| “This passkey does not open the keys.” | Your passkey belongs to no key with access. Ask a team member for an emoji comparison: Set up access to encrypted data. If nobody has access any more, recover access with the emergency kit. |
