Set up access to encrypted data

If your tenant encrypts and you see Set up access in the top bar, set up a key of your own with your passkey, as an organizer without a passkey with your password. A second person confirms it by comparing emojis; only then do you read the names and details of participants.

Prerequisites

  • An account in the team or with an organizer profile, with a passkey that can derive keys, e.g. one stored in iCloud, Google or 1Password: Set up a passkey. As an organizer without a passkey, signing in with a password is enough.
  • A person who can confirm your key, on the phone or next to you:
    • As an admin: a team member with access.
    • As an organizer: a colleague of your organizer profile with access. If nobody there has access yet, a team member of the tenant.

Steps

  1. In the top bar, select Set up access.
  2. Create your key:
    • With a passkey: select Create key with passkey and confirm with your passkey.
    • As an organizer without a passkey: enter your password under Password and select Create key with password.
  3. Call the person who confirms your key, or sit down with them, and keep the window open until the emojis appear.

The Access to encrypted data dialog, as Kim Beispiel of the Sportverein Elmsbrück sees it.

  1. Read the 7 emojis out to each other and compare picture and order.
  2. If all match, select They match. If one differs, select They don't match.

The emojis as both sides see them.

Result

The dialog shows Access set up and “Your key is confirmed. You now read the encrypted data in this browser.” Instead of Set up access, the top bar shows the lock.

If it does not work

ProblemRemedy
The badge shows Access awaits confirmation.Your key has been created but not confirmed yet. Select the badge, then Unlock with passkey or, without a passkey, Unlock with password, and go on with step 3.
The dialog shows Comparison cancelled. The other person cancelled, or the comparison waited too long. Keep the window open; the person can start the comparison again.
“The password is wrong.”Enter the password you sign in with. A new password via Forgot? only restores the sign-in; then set up a new key.
“The emojis don't match. Nothing was shared. …”Cancel and find out with the person whether you were comparing with each other. Only then start again.
As an organizer, you still see “Kind” and 4 characters instead of the names after the comparison. The key for the children of your offers is handed on by a team member's browser as soon as it unlocks. Ask the team to sign in and unlock, then reload the page.
